What is a Podcast?

The term podcast comes from a combination of iPod (the highly successful mp3 player) and broadcast (as in a radio). Podcasts are audio files made available for download on a regular basis. Podcasting is becoming a very popular option for a lot of people to create low-cost radio-like shows with potential for world-wide audience reach.

What is a Podcast Receiver?

A podcast receiver is simply a piece of software that you can use to collect and download podcasts. It works similarly to email programs such as Outlook Express, Eudora or Thunderbird. When a new podcast is available the program downloads the audio file and stores it in a location you specify until you are ready to listen to the file.

There are many more podcast receivers available (typically for free). To find them search for "podcast receiver" in Google.
